Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min has praised James Maddison after his performance in Saturday’s win at Burnley.
James Maddison has been praised as ‘very clever’ by teammate Son Heung-min after Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-2 win over Burnley.
Spurs fell behind to Lyle Foster’s early goal and some may have feared that the midweek Carabao Cup defeat to Fulham had halted the momentum.
Tottenham ran riot though as Son smashed a hat-trick whilst Cristian Romero and the aforementioned Maddison also got on the scoresheet.
Maddison’s goal was a lovely strike, firing home Destiny Udogie’s pass from the edge of the box with an inch-perfect strike.
Maddison has been in superb form for Tottenham this season, bagging two goals and two assists in his first four Premier League games.
The 26-year-old seems to perfectly fit Ange Postecoglou’s style of play and we are seeing him make an immediate impact.
Teammate Son Heung-min has been hugely impressed, telling Spurs Play that Maddison’s goal against Burnley was truly ‘special’ and that his right foot is a ‘joy to watch’.
Son added that he thinks Maddison is ‘very clever’ in how he sees the game and believes that he has been ‘fantastic’ so far this season.
“This is special from him,” said Son. “In that position, before he shoots, I was already celebrating probably, because his right foot is a joy to watch. The passing, the movement, the way he sees the game, I think he’s very clever. I think he controls the game, even on the ball and off the ball as well. He steps up always and he’s playing fantastic this season,” he added.

James Maddison looking like a relative bargain for Tottenham Hotspur
Postecoglou laughed off the idea that a £40million player can be a bargain but there is something in that statement.
Midfielders are becoming more and more expensive; just look at the deals for Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Declan Rice this year.
Maddison has arrived for a mere fraction of those prices, joining for £40million following Leicester’s relegation to the Championship.

It gets even better as Harry Winks went the other way for £10million, meaning you can argue that Maddison actually only cost £30million.
That’s a technicality but Tottenham are seeing outstanding performances and the end product to match from Maddison.
If Maddison can keep up this kind of form, you would be hard-pressed to find a better value-for-money midfielder in the Premier League this season.
