‘A legend of Spurs’: £192k-a-week Tottenham ace posts 26-word tribute to Bale, who retires at 33

Tottenham Hotspur winger Son-Heung min has posted a tweet, paying homage to Gareth Bale, who announced his retirement from football on Monday.

While Bale was in his prime at Tottenham when Son was playing in the Bundesliga, the pair had the chance to share the same pitch during the former’s return to the club in 2020.

And now, the Welshman, who is classed as one of the greatest players in Spurs history has decided to hang up his boots.

After leaving Tottenham in 2013, Gareth Bale made a name for himself at Real Madrid.

While niggling injuries and a hostile reception from the fanbase on occasion seemed to hold Bale back in the Spanish capital, he still managed to etch his name into the history books.

The flying winger’s winner in the Copa del Rey against Barcelona remains the stuff of legends.

Similarly, the ex-Tottenham icon scored the winner in Real Madrid’s dramatic Champions League final win against Atletico Madrid in 2014.

And amidst a number of other such incredible performances and even bigger moments, Bale truly cemented his place in footballing folklore with the most cinematic of braces against Liverpool in the Champions League final in 2018.

Now, the 192,000-a-week star has paid homage to a former teammate.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has posted a tweet in honour of Gareth Bale, who announced his retirement from football on Monday evening.

“A legend of Spurs and a legend of football. Congratulations on an amazing career, Gareth Bale!! Wishing you the best luck in your next chapter mate”, Son Heung-min said in his tweet.

Ultimately, the tribute paid by Son to Gareth Bale just shows the impact the latter had on both Tottenham, as a club and football in general.
