Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min has confirmed to Reuters that he slept through the 3-0 win over Manchester United on Monday night.

Spurs were in fine form at Old Trafford as Harry Kane set Mauricio Pochettino’s side on their way to a stunning victory, with Brazilian star Lucas Moura adding two more in a 3-0 thrashing.

That’s now three wins in three games for Spurs, and the last two have come without Son available – part of the season why Moura has been given such a key role of late.

Son, 26, had to leave after the opening day win over Newcastle United in order to head to Indonesia for the Asian Games, representing South Korea in the football competition.

A lot is riding on this for Son; if South Korea can win the tournament, then he will receive exemption from mandatory military service, which would last two years and he would have to head out within the next 18 months to start that.

So far, Son has been thriving, captaining his side to the final against Japan this weekend, and whilst Spurs fans will be focused on this weekend’s game against Watford, many will have one eye on Son’s fortunes in Indonesia.

Now, Son has spoken about Tottenham, and revealed to Reuters that he had to sleep through the 3-0 win over Manchester United due to the time difference – but he was ‘very happy’ to see the score when he woke up.

Son also admitted that he is ready to wait for his place in the Spurs side after impressive results without him, showing that he is still very much a team player, part of why he is such a fan favourite in North London.

“It was too late, it was two o’clock in the morning here so I was sleeping but I was very happy when I saw the result,” said Son. “I was very happy for that and very proud of my team mates. I’m here but I’m still watching my team mates, so I was very happy.”

“I’ve missed already three or four weeks and we have the international break before I will be back. I’m ready for that. Even when I don’t play I will be waiting for my chance. We’re one team and I have to be ready to play for my team,” he added.
