It hasn’t been a great season collectively for Tottenham but Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have certainly stood out individually.

Some might have wondered if Kane would be the same player after the injury last season but he has come back better than ever.

The main development has been in terms of assists, which has made him a more rounded forward.

That has also benefited Heung-min Son, and the pair were absolutely on fire in the early months of the season when Spurs were challenging at the top of the table.

Kane has 21 goals and 13 assists in the league, while Son boasts 16 and ten after his performance in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Sheffield United.

Those figures aren’t just impressive in Premier League terms, they bear comparison with the rest of Europe too.

Only eight players in Europe have more than ten goals and assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season. 25 per cent of them play for Spurs.

There are no Manchester City players on that list. Bruno Fernandes is the only other Premier League representative.

That means Son, and especially Kane, need to be serious contenders in the conversation over PFA Player of the Year.

Tottenham’s lack of team success should not count them out, nor is it a reflection on their quality or consistency this season.

It also underlines what any prospective Tottenham manager would be working with.

Brendan Rodgers, Julian Nagelsmann and Erik ten Hag have turned the joh down but plenty of other bosses would love to manage a forward partnership which is putting up numbers as good as anyone in Europe.
