It was a pretty poor night for Liverpool on Wednesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side slumped to a 2-0 defeat by Atalanta in the Champions League at Anfield.
And really, virtually no attacking player for Liverpool did themselves or their side much credit last night, but this is particularly true of Sadio Mane.
The former Southampton star, a £30 million signing in 2016, produced a pretty lethargic display that was lacking in the sort of electricity that Reds fans have come to expect from the 28-year-old.
And Clinton Morrison, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, has admitted that he has never seen the player concede possession as often as he did against the Italian outfit.
He said: “Sadio Mane has been well off it. Something’s not right. I’ve never seen Sadio Mane give the ball away as much as he has tonight. I’m one of his biggest fans but he’s been really sloppy.”
According to WhoScored, Mane managed only a successful pass rate of 64 percent, which reflects what Morrison has claimed here.
It’s been a bit of a subdued season for the Senegal international by his own standards, scoring five times in 12 appearances, which isn’t a bad return by any means but the quality of overall performance has dipped too and Liverpool boss Klopp might need to give him a break ahead of the hectic festive schedule.
