Arsenal have been making good progress regarding the long-term futures of some of their young stars.

Gunners forward Gabriel Martinelli has already penned a new contract at The Emirates Stadium.

Bukayo Saka is expected to follow suit, while William Saliba could well also get a new deal.

Now, Simon Collings has told GiveMeSport he feels “something will get done” about Reiss Nelson’s contract.

The 23-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season.

He hasn’t had much luck with game time at Arsenal of late, but he is now the man of the moment.

Nelson scored a last-minute winner last Saturday as the Gunners picked up a 3-2 win over Bournemouth.

That could prove to be a season-defining goal for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Nelson has also made it clear he’d love to stay at Arsenal, the club where he came through the ranks.

And Collings reckons that the £38,000-a-week winger’s time at N5 likely won’t be coming to an end this season.

The Evening Standard journalist wrote: “Yeah, so this is a player who’s into the last six months of his contract, obviously.

“The talks have been going on before the game at the weekend, but it’s now a big story, he is the man of the moment.

“I think there is a sense from both sides that something will get done.

“Nelson, who I interviewed back in November, was pretty clear that he wants to try and stay at the club, he wants to fight for his place.

“He loves Arsenal, he’s an Arsenal fan, and he’s an academy lad.”

Great attitude

Honestly, this is a no-brainer for Arsenal.

Nelson is an ‘electrifying‘ talent with plenty of years ahead of him who has shown he has what it takes at the top level.

And the fact he’s willing to stay at the club despite not being guaranteed first-team football for now speaks volumes to his character.

Arteta has shown he’s quite a meritocratic manager who’ll make players work hard for their chance but keep them in the XI when they’ve taken it.

Let’s hope Arsenal give Nelson a new contract and he repays that faith by giving Arteta a big selection headache.
