Chris Sutton has written in The Daily Mail that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will not be able to sign Argentina World Cup winner Julian Alvarez from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the January transfer window.
The former Chelsea striker has joked that now that Manchester City have seen how well Arsenal have done with Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, the defending Premier League champions are not going to send them a third player in Alvarez.
Arsenal signed striker Jesus and Zinchenko, who can operate as a midfielder or as a left-back, from Premier League rivals City in the summer of 2022.
The Gunners are as many as five points clear of second-placed City at the top of the Premier League table at the moment.
However, Arsenal are without Jesus at the moment due to the injury he suffered while playing for Brazil at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Mikel Arteta’s side are now reportedly looking for a replacement striker.

There is no credible rumour anywhere that Arsenal want to sign Alavrez, and Sutton has joked that City will not send the 22-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.
Alvarez was one of the best players for Argentina at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The South American giants won the tournament, beating France in the final.
Chris Sutton on Arsenal, Manchester City and Julian Alvarez
Sutton wrote: “They’ve lost Gabriel Jesus at the worst time. He was one of the most high-profile injuries to come out of the World Cup and now manager Mikel Arteta is having to look to the January transfer window for a short-term replacement.
“Something tells me that Manchester City, having seen how selling Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko turned Arsenal into title contenders, will not loan them Argentina World Cup hero Julian Alvarez.”
