Speaking on the Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Alan Shearer has been chatting about the unique rivalry between Celtic and Rangers in Scotland.
The Glasgow Derby, or the Old Firm, as some like to call it, is one of the most intense and ferocious rivalries in world football, and as the Match of the Day lads ranked their top 10 English football derbies, they, inevitably, got onto speaking about Celtic vs Rangers.
Shearer says that he’s been to both Ibrox and Celtic Park for this game, and he says that he’s never experienced a rivalry like it.
What’s been said?
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer spoke about Rangers vs Celtic.
“Have you ever been to the Glasgow Derby?” Lineker asked.
“Oh yes, unbelievable. They are without a doubt, I’ve been to a lot of these games, but that Glasgow Derby is something else. My god, it is ferocious. Both grounds at Celtic and at Rangers, it is a proper hatred isn’t it? It’s something different up there,” Shearer said.

Unlike anything else
Shearer is absolutely right, the Glasgow Derby is one of a kind.
Not only is this one of the most fierce rivalries in football, it’s one of the most important.
In recent years, almost every single Scottish league season has been a straight shootout between Rangers and Celtic, and the games between the two sides each season often decide who will eventually be crowned champions.
Factor in the close proximity of the two clubs and a number of other off-field factors, and you have the most intense footballing rivalry in the UK.
