It has taken most of the summer but it looks like Ben White to Arsenal is finally a done deal.
Sky Sports News reported in midweek that the player was at London Colney undergoing a medical.
Bear in mind that this was the player’s umpteenth medical – well, reported medical.
Such is the fanfare regarding White’s £50 million move to Arsenal, there’s been a lot written and it appears earlier reports of a medical had been inaccurate.
But now it seems like the Gunners have gotten it over the line.
There are leaked images of White, flanked by Mikel Arteta and Edu, doing the rounds on Twitter and here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted:
Only the start?
Spending £50 million is a lot of money.
But according to journalist Duncan Castles, the Emirates Stadium side are only coughing up £30 million for now and the rest will be paid by 2023.
This is smart on behalf of Edu and Arteta because it allows Arsenal that bit more spending power – and let’s face it, their shopping can’t possibly be done yet.
Arteta’s side finished eighth in the Premier League table last season and have no European football of any description next term, for the first time in over two decades.
And although Arsenal have already signed Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and apparently White, further reinforcements are vital.
