Tim Sherwood has heaped praise on Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey by saying he is going from ‘strength to strength’, as he told Premier League Productions (14/12/21 at 9:00 pm)
The former Villa boss added that his goal on Tuesday night against Norwich ‘reminds’ him of a certain Steven Gerrard.
Villa recorded a 2-0 win at Carrow Road, with Ramsey opening the scoring following a driving solo run from his own half, before he lashed the ball into the back of the net with his weaker left foot.
It was a stunning effort from the boyhood Villa fan, who now has two Premier League goals to his name this term – and it should have been three had Kasper Schmeichel not acted like he needed his hand amputated during Villa’s win against Leicester a fortnight ago.
Nonetheless, Sherwood, during his days at Tottenham and Villa, provided the younger players with chances and he likes what Ramsey is producing.
“This reminds me of someone,” said Sherwood with a grin on his face. “Driving forward from midfield and it’s certainly not me, his manager standing on the side.
“Someone with this ability, athleticism and drive – Ramsey is on his way, he has no support. Stevie will be delighted with that.
“This kid will go from strength to strength with him (Gerrard) teaching him every day. No-one played better in midfield than him. Box-to-box midfielder.
“This guy looks like, I mean he has a long way to go, but he has the best person to learn off.”

With a legendary figure like Gerrard on the touchline and on the training field on a daily basis, it’s obvious that those comparisons are going to be made.
But Ramsey has to ignore that hype and let his football do the talking because he is in a unique situation in terms of the footballing education he can get off someone like Gerrard.
At the end of the day, he is still 20-years-old and hasn’t really had one full season of Premier League football under his belt.
Last season, under Dean Smith, whilst he earned minutes, it was in a sporadic fashion.
