West Ham travel to Kingsmeadow to face League One side AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night in the second round of the Carabao Cup – and some Hammers fans want new signing Andriy Yarmolenko to start.

West Ham enter the competition at the second round along with a handful of Premier League clubs, with those qualifying for Europe joining the tournament in the next round.

Summer signing Yarmolenko, 28, joined the Hammers from German side Borussia Dortmund this summer but is yet to start for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. Instead, he has made three Premier League substitute appearances.

Clocking up only 61 minutes in total, the Ukraine international could now be given the chance to show just why he deserves a chance to help West Ham turn around their poor start to the Premier League season.

Pellegrini has plenty of decisions to make ahead of the cup tie, with the Chilean boss likely to rest a number of his first-team stars. It could see Yarmolenko, who cost the club £17.5million (Sky Sports) feature from the off.

West Ham fans certainly want to see their new signing from the off, as they look to progress into the next round and mount a challenge for the Cup. One fan Tweeted he wants to see Yarmolenko: “up top with Chicha [Javier Hernandez]”.
