West Ham United have been dealt a blow before the new season starts with the news that Andy Carroll is set to be sidelined for several months.

A number of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that the Hammers confirmed on their official website on Thursday that Andy Carroll requires minor surgery and will miss the next three months.
Carroll has been attached to the Irons for the last six seasons – his first year at the club was a loan spell – but has only managed to make 128 appearances in all competitions, managing more than 24 games in a single season on one occasion.
Last term was another difficult one for the former Liverpool and Newcastle ace as he played 18 times and scored just three goals in all competitions.
With Manuel Pellegrini coming in and making a number of changes already in the window, Carroll may have felt that he needed a big pre-season to make sure that he was in the Chilean’s plans when the new Premier League campaign began.

Unsurprisingly, a large number of Hammers fans are hugely frustrated with the news. Carroll has never seemed to manage a prolonged run in the team since joining permanently and the supporters are extremely angry that he is sidelined once again.

In fact, many have suggested that the West Ham hierarchy should now look to terminate Carroll’s contract as they do not believe that the club can rely on him at all.
