West Ham United fans reacted in a positive fashion to Nikola Vlasic’s performance against Manchester United on Sunday.
There would have been mixed emotions at the full-time whistle for the West Ham faithful, on one hand, they would have been proud of their team’s performance, but on the other, that late penalty drama would have been hard to take during their 2-1 defeat.
Given that David Moyes is without star striker, Michail Antonio, it forced him to tweak his forward line.
Vlasic, a big-money summer signing from CSKA Moscow, was handed his first Premier League start in Claret and Blue colours.
West Ham fans were pleased with what they saw from their new signing, albeit they understand that he needs fine-tuning in certain areas, which is understandable given that he has just walked through their doors.
It wouldn’t have been easy for the 23-year-old to be thrown into such a heavyweight showdown and with extra pressure on his shoulders because of Antonio’s absence.
But, going forward, his supporters liked what they saw and they think he can build himself to be a top-quality performer for them.
Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma, who are now thriving in West Ham colours, also didn’t get their engines going as quickly as they would have liked when they first joined – the former being snapped up by Manuel Pellegrini.
But they have shown that with patience that they can become key members and constant threats in the attacking third.
And there is enough confidence in the air that Vlasic will follow suit.
