A number of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the reports emerging from The Sun this weekend which have suggested that Manuel Pellegrini is eyeing a move for Lyon defender Marcelo this summer.

The Hammers have certainly been busy during this window. Lukasz Fabianski has replaced Joe Hart while Ryan Fredericks and Issa Diop have both improved the club’s options at the back. And it appears that Pellegrini is keen to bolster his defensive options further.

According to The Sun, a move for Marcelo may well be on the cards following his impressive season in Ligue 1, where he made 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.

The Sun adds however, that a potential move may meet a major stumbling block when it comes to agreeing the financial package that would be involved in getting the centre-back to the London Stadium.

The Sun suggests that the 31-year-old would cost around £15 million and would need to be on top wages to ensure that there are no issues getting a work permit. And that has left a number of West Ham fans feeling slightly underwhelmed about the links.

While there is little disputing that he could be a good signing for the club, it seems that a large majority of the fans do not see how the Hammers hierarchy can justify spending those kind of fees on the defender when his age suggests that he may not be too far away from the peak days of his career being behind him.

There has been some support for a potential move for Marcelo, but it would appear, if he did sign, that the fans would be fairly divided on the situation, especially if it had an impact on the business that they could do during the rest of the window.
