West Bromwich Albion are reportedly set to open talks with James Morrison over a new contract at The Hawthorns.

A number of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports emerging from the Express and Star on Thursday which have suggested that the Baggies are planning to open contract talks with James Morrison imminently.
Morrison is essentially a free agent right now, with his previous deal at The Hawthorns expiring at the end of last season. He has however, remained at the club and played a part in Darren Moore’s side’s pre-season.
He scored a stunning goal in the comeback win over Barnsley earlier this week, and the Express and Star reports that he has now done enough in the club’s eyes for talks to begin over fresh terms ahead of the Baggies’ Championship campaign.
It appears that the reports have been met with a largely positive reaction amongst the West Brom fans on social media. There is undoubtedly some concern given that he spent the large majority of last season on the sidelines with an Achilles injury, and with the Scotland international now 32, he is hardly going to be a long-term option for Moore’s side if he does stay.

However, most feel that it is the right decision to offer him fresh terms. He has been a fantastic servant for the club for more than a decade and his goal against the Tykes reaffirmed that he has that little bit of quality that could make a major difference in the Championship next term.
Some feel that the contract should include a much lower salary – the Express and Star reports that his deal included wages of £60,000-a-week – that is more focused on performance related clauses just in case he once again endures a nightmare spell with injuries. But the general consensus definitely appears to be that the club are making the right move.

Here is what some of the fans are saying in response to the reports…
