A number of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight after the club confirmed on their official website that Sam Field has signed a new contract with the Baggies ahead of their season in the Championship.

There was a lot of optimism surrounding The Hawthorns following the end of last season. Despite their relegation, Darren Moore’s time in interim charge and subsequent appointment suggested that brighter times could be ahead and going down and taking a step back may actually help the club take several forward in the future.

Some of that positivity has evaporated somewhat lately however, with Ben Foster and Jonny Evans leaving the club and a number of question marks lingering over the futures of a few more of Moore’s men. Sam Johnstone remains their only signing so far this summer.

However, Field has handed the Baggies a reason to be cheerful with the new season less than a month away after the club confirmed on their official website that he has signed a new contract that is set to run until 2022. Four fellow youngsters have also committed their futures to the club this summer.

The news that Field has signed an extension has gone down extremely well amongst a large section of the West Brom fans on social media – though some wish to see more emphasis being put on making new signings. The 20-year-old got some chances to shine last season and often looked like one of their better players when given an opportunity.

In fact, it was a regular source of frustration for the Baggies supporters that he was not featuring more often last term, so many are hoping that this new deal signals his emergence into a more prominent role for the coming season.
