James McClean has become the latest player to leave West Bromwich Albion this summer, and many of the fans are delighted.

A number of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that was confirmed at the weekend that James McClean has left the Baggies to join Championship rivals Stoke City.

McClean seemed to endure a difficult time with West Brom. After arriving off the back of an impressive spell with Wigan Athletic in the Championship, he struggled to replicate that form at The Hawthorns and has ended his stay with just five goals in 111 appearances in all competitions.

BBC Sport reports that West Brom have received an initial £5 million from the Potters for the Republic of Ireland international, and the deal could ultimately rise to £6 million due to add-ons.

McClean has always been deemed a divisive figure amongst football fans for various reasons, including his unwillingness to ignore an issue that he is passionate about. His combative nature has also landed him in trouble on the pitch.

And that appears to be one of the reasons why many of the West Brom fans who have commented on the news appear to be pleased that he has left the club this summer.

McClean never quite seemed able to find his best form for the Baggies, so some feel that getting around £5 million is superb business, and Stoke have been mocked for paying that amount. And while there is some disappointment that McClean has left, most appear to feel that it is a step in the right direction for Darren Moore’s men.
