West Bromwich Albion have announced that they have swapped strikers with Newcastle United, with Dwight Gayle joining the Baggies on loan.

It appears that West Brom and Newcastle fans can finally move on from what has seemed like one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer, with the news that Salomon Rondon has finally joined the Magpies on loan while Dwight Gayle has headed in the opposite direction.

West Brom have now confirmed on their official website that Gayle has joined the Baggies for the rest of the season, paving the way for the Venezuelan to leave The Hawthorns and secure a swift return to the Premier League.

Rondon will be a loss. His work-rate was often praised, and he leaves – seemingly temporarily – with a decent return of goals under his belt. Nevertheless, securing a deal for Gayle appears to be a real coup for Darren Moore’s men.

The 28-year-old was lethal during Newcastle’s most recent season in the second tier, scoring 23 times in just 32 games as the Magpies secured promotion out of the Championship.

His record at the highest level is less impressive than Rondon’s, but Moore will certainly not care too much about Gayle’s top flight stats right now as West Brom look to try and bounce back from Saturday’s defeat to Bolton at The Hawthorns.

Many of the West Brom fans on Twitter believe that Gayle is a superb addition on loan, with some even suggesting that the Baggies have got the better end of the swap. There is undoubtedly plenty of excitement regarding Gayle’s move, and he will be hoping that he can quickly vindicate the fans’ delight.
