Aston Villa have snapped up Birmingham City winger Jota.
Aston Villa won promotion to the Premier League last week, and they tied up their first signing since beating Derby County by securing Jota.
Many were surprised when rumours emerged over the weekend that Birmingham City ace Jota would be heading to Villa in a part-exchange deal involving Gary Gardner.
Today, Villa confirmed that the deal had gone through, with Gardner making his loan move permanent and Jota making the shock switch to Villa Park.
The 27-year-old racked up three goals and 11 assists in the Championship this season, and now moves to reunite with Villa boss Dean Smith.
The pair worked together at Brentford in the 2016-17 season, with Jota smashing 12 goals and five assists in 21 games under Smith after his loan spell with Eibar came to an end.
Villa confirmed that Jota has penned a two-year deal with the club, adding to Smith’s wide options after releasing Albert Adomah over the weekend – but Villa fans think there’s something strange about the deal.
Some believe that two years is too short of a contract, feeling Villa may be open to losing Jota if he impresses – but others believe it’s an ideal move, giving him an incentive to earn a new deal whilst ensuring Villa aren’t saddled with him for long if he flops.
