Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira put some pretty patchy club form behind him on Friday night.

The Uruguay international has been a little hit and miss since leaving Arsenal to join Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan last month.

But the 24-year-old was brilliant last night as the South Americans thrashed Colombia 3-0 in World Cup qualifying.

Torreira, who joined the Gunners in 2018, finished the game with three clearances and interceptions, four successful tackles and one assist.

Here’s how Uruguay fans reacted to his performance on Twitter last night:

In terms of talent, Torreira is a class act but consistency remains his biggest problem.

The reason why Arsenal loaned him out this past summer was because he failed to follow up an exceptional first season in North London, during the 2018-19 campaign under Unai Emery.

Things could still be great for him in Spain, but they haven’t gotten off to a brilliant start.

That being said, hopefully for the diminutive midfielder he can maintain his international form and return to the Spanish capital with a spring in his step.
