Some Tottenham Hotspur fans are calling on the club to hand Fernando Llorente a new contract.

Llorente has been something of a divisive figure in his 18 months at Tottenham, but has stepped up admirably in the absence of Spurs’ talisman, Harry Kane.

The Spanish striker scored his third goal in five games – having also assisted three in that time – as Mauricio Pochettino’s side beat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 on Wednesday.

But with his contract set to expire this summer, Llorente might not be a Tottenham player much longer.

This is what those of a Spurs persuasion are saying about the situation on Twitter…

According to Transfermarkt, Tottenham paid around £13 million to sign Llorente from Swansea City.

The 33-year-old has since scored 12 goals and assisted five in 51 games, many of which have been as a substitute.

Goals from Heung-min Son, Jan Vertonghen and Llorente gave Spurs and emphatic first-leg lead in their Champions League last-16 tie.
