Michel Vorm decided to stay at Tottenham Hotspur this summer despite spending the last four seasons as backup to Hugo Lloris.

A number of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to respond to the comments that Michel Vorm made – that have been reported by the Daily Mail – regarding his decision to stay at Tottenham this summer as the club took up the option on his deal.

Vorm has spent four seasons on Spurs’ books. Despite establishing himself as one of the more impressive Premier League stoppers during his time with Swansea, he has spent that entire time with Tottenham as Hugo Lloris’ understudy.

The 34-year-old has barely reached double figures for league appearances, and has played less than 50 games in all competitions since arriving. So many would have been forgiven for expecting The Netherlands international to depart this summer when his contract expired.

However, Vorm insisted that he felt that he had little reason to leave the club during this window given the relationship he has with the club and the key figures associated with Spurs.

“I am still very happy here. I didn’t have other options. Maybe I would if we looked for it,” he said, as reported by the Mail.

“It might be difficult to understand on the outside but I feel very appreciated here.

“I’ve been here from the start with Pochettino and the staff. I’ve really seen us evolve to where we are now. With the new stadium coming up it’s such a joy to be here. You look at your family as well. It depends also on the type of goalkeeper I am.”

In response, a number of Tottenham fans have lauded Vorm for the attitude that he shows. There are some who feel that he should have left in the summer or not seen the option in his contract taken up by the club, but the majority appear to be extremely impressed by his comments.
