Tottenham Hotspur fans have praised the performance of Jan Vertonghen against England last night.
Vertonghen started at the back for Belgium against England and helped his nation pick up a 2-0 win over the Three Lions.
The former Spurs man actually helped create the first goal of his nation, as his front-foot pressing caused Eric Dier to give the ball away on the half-way line and that led to the opportunity which Youri Tielemens tucked away.
Vertonghen looked very assured alongside his old Tottenham teammate Toby Alderweireld.
And the 33-year-old’s display brought back good memories for Spurs fans.
Vertonghen is now playing for Benfica in Portugal after leaving Tottenham, and he has been handed regular football in Portugal.
During his last year at Spurs Vertonghen did show signs of age, with his lack of pace exposed at times.
However, he will go down as one of Tottenham’s finest ever defenders and the reaction to his showing last night proves just how popular he remains in North London.
