Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter haven’t reacted well to Ben Davies’s performance in last night’s pre-season friendly defeat.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side lost 4-1 to Spanish side Girona in the northeastern Catalonia region last night.

The Spurs manager fielded a relatively inexperienced first XI, with Michel Vorm, Davies, Serge Aurier, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min the only established first-team players.

Despite the heavy defeat, Tottenham moved ahead through Lucas’s excellent free kick, but the Spanish outfit hit back twice and Davies – playing in central defence – did not cover himself in glory at all.

Pochettino moved the Wales international to his favoured left-back role after the break but even then the former Swansea City defender struggled for pace.

And here is how some fans of the North London club reacted to his performance last night:

Spain is enduring a major heatwave at the moment and it’s probably worth pointing out that the temperatures hardly did any Tottenham player – not least Davies – many favours.

In a cooler climate, Davies, who started 26 of the Lilywhites’ 38 Premier League games last season, is a much better defender and very few fans of the North Londoners will be reading a lot into his latest display.
