The Tottenham full back is hoping to come out on top in a rivalry with the England star in 2018/19.
The Ivorian, who joined Spurs last summer in a £23 million deal from Paris Saint-Germain, has so far failed to prove himself in the Premier League, with Trippier going from strength to strength as a right wing back.
Aurier played a decent amount of football as the pair were rotated by Mauricio Pochettino over the course of a long season, but showed himself to be rash at times, a reputation that had followed him to England from his time with PSG.
The 25-year-old was an eye-catching signing at the time, but really has done little to justify being picked over Trippier, and will certainly have his work cut out if he is to dislodge Trippier, whose reputation has soared after playing so well in Russia.
Speaking about his teammate, Aurier said as quoted in a report from the Evening Standard: “Trippier is on holiday and it’s my moment to take my chance.
“The season is long. I start now and Trippier is coming afterwards. It was the same for me [last season]. Now is my time. If I play good, then the gaffer has a choice [to make].
“I’m happy for Tripps. I sent him a message for the game [England’s semi-final defeat by Croatia] and for the World Cup. I said congratulations for your World Cup.
“It’s good competition for me – not a bad thing. Trippier gave me some things and me [to him] too. If Trippier is good, he plays. If I am good, I play. It’s no problem for me.”
It is unclear at this stage whether Trippier will feature in Tottenham’s first Premier League game of the new season against Newcastle United, but if he doesn’t then Aurier has a real chance to show that he can at least be an adequate back up. The Spurs faithful are certainly hopeful:
