Crystal Palace are closing in on a deal for long-term Tottenham target Max Meyer.

Crystal Palace are closing in on signing free agent Max Meyer, with The Guardian reporting yesterday he was due in to undergo a medical at the club.

Meyer has the potential to be a terrific addition for Palace, and some Tottenham Hotspur fans have been expressing their frustration at their own club missing out.

Tottenham were linked with a £37 million move for Meyer in 2016 by German newspaper BILD and now they appear to be passing on the chance to sign him for free.

Spurs have not made a single signing this transfer window and Meyer would have been a low cost gamble.

Over the last two years, Meyer has developed his game to become a more defensive style of midfielder amid coaching changes at Schalke.

He chose to run down his contract and move on, and appears to be Premier League bound, just with Palace.

Spurs have doubts over the future of Mousa Dembele, who has one year left on his deal, while midfielders Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks have had injury troubles this summer already.

The club’s inactivity appears to be Crystal Palace’s gain, but several Spurs fans have been commenting on social media about Meyer’s future…
