Tottenham Hotspur managed to get the fans talking as they posted a series of images of some of their World Cup stars.

A number of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to comment after the club posted a number of images showing their World Cup stars back at the club and in training – and there is no question which player attracted the most attention.

There may well be a number of Spurs fans feeling slightly concerned about the upcoming campaign. The transfer window is only open for a few more days and no signings have been brought in, and a number of Mauricio Pochettino’s players were involved in the latter stages of the World Cup and thus, returning to the club much later than many of their teammates.

Among those who were involved right until the end in Russia was Toby Alderweireld as he helped Belgium to a third place finish in the tournament.

It is unclear what the future holds for the centre-back. The Daily Mirror reports that Manchester United have made a take it or leave it offer for the former Southampton ace, who currently has 12 months remaining on his contract. Spurs could extend his deal by a further year, but a £25 million release clause would then be active.

The Mirror adds that Alderweireld has no intention of signing a new deal with Tottenham, but with Spurs’ valuation significantly higher than what Manchester United are willing to pay, it does appear that the saga could continue to rumble on well beyond this week’s deadline.

But Spurs posting an image of Alderweireld back in training with the club has left some supporters seemingly slightly more optimistic that there could be a chance that he could still be a Tottenham player when the window shuts.
