Chelsea have beaten Tottenham to the signing of Mateo Kovacic.

Tottenham Hotspur have lost out to Chelsea in the race for Real Madrid attacker Mateo Kovacic.
Chelsea announced Kovacic’s signing on their official website, on a season long loan as part of a deal to sell goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Kovacic had been linked throughout the summer with a move to Tottenham Hotspur amid his desperation to leave Real Madrid.
The Sun reported earlier this summer that Spurs were keen on a move for Kovacic.
Tottenham have not managed to get any deals done at all, and seeing their rivals move in and snap the Croatian up on loan has upset fans.

Kovacic is a player with quality, but also failed to establish himself as a first team player at Real Madrid.
His spell at Inter Milan was also inconsistent, and he is no guarantee to be a success at Chelsea, nor would he have been at Spurs.
Yet seeing another reported target slip away has not gone down well with Tottenham supporters…
