Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier came into the England side for their World Cup third place play-off on Saturday.

A number of Tottenham fans took to Twitter to express their belief that Eric Dier should have been a regular fixture in the England side ahead of Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson after the Spurs ace’s display in the Three Lions’ third place play-off with Belgium on Saturday.
After a tournament that has captivated the nation in a way that few expected, England’s summer ended in something of a damp squib as they lost to the Belgians for the second time since arriving in Russia to finish the competition in fourth place.
It was an anti-climax following the excitement in the wake of the quarter-final victory to Sweden, and Gareth Southgate made a number of changes for the clash with one involving bringing Dier back into the side in place of Henderson.
The Tottenham ace certainly got better as he settled into the game and was unlucky not to score as Spurs teammate Toby Alderweireld managed to get back and clear an effort off the line.

His display prompted a number of Tottenham fans to suggest that Dier should have played a much more prominent role throughout the tournament instead of Henderson.
The Liverpool skipper was Southgate’s first-choice in the middle of the park and received a lot of praise for several of his displays. However, some Spurs fans, unsurprisingly, suggested on social media that he was fortunate to play as often as he did, with some even suggesting that England would be preparing for today’s final had Dier played all of the game against Croatia instead of Henderson.

Here is what some of the Tottenham fans made of Dier’s performance against Belgium…
