A player let go by Tottenham Hotspur returned to north London to score against Arsenal on Thursday.

Tottenham Hotspur fans arrive prior to the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton FC at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 12, 2019 in London, United Kingdom.

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans’ attempts to troll Arsenal failed spectacularly.

An impatient few could not wait to remind their north London rivals that the goal scored by the former Tottenham academy player, Marcus Edwards, after just eight minutes against Arsenal on Thursday had moved him level with the Gunners’ record signing, Nicolas Pepe, for chances converted at the Emirates Stadium.

But with little more than that amount of time remaining, Pepe found the net with a couple of expertly taken free-kicks to snatch a 3-2 win for Unai Emery’s side against Vitoria de Guimaraes.

And it is those of an Arsenal persuasion who are enjoying the last laugh.

Tottenham have held north London’s bragging rights in each of the previous three campaigns.

But it is Arsenal who currently sit higher in the Premier League table – fifth with 15 points.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are three behind in seventh.
