Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are praising new goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini for his performance tonight.
Tottenham drew 2-2 with Chelsea in a pre-season friendly.
Much of the pre-match talk centered around Harry Kane’s omission, so much so that it was easy to forget that Spurs had one of their new players in the squad.
Gollini was signed on a season-long loan from Atalanta in Italy.
And the former Aston Villa and Manchester United stopper made some fine saves throughout the game.
Here’s how some fans of the North London club reacted to his debut:
What happened?
Chelsea were leading 2-0 within 50 minutes thanks to two goals from Hakim Ziyech in each half.
But Tottenham, under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo, fought back; first when Lucas Moura’s deflected effort went in, and then when Steven Bergwijn equalised with 20 minutes to go.
The comeback and Gollini’s performance are major positives during an otherwise turbulent week for the Lilywhites, amid the talk of Kane leaving.
The 28-year-old striker is due back at Hotspur Way later this week after missing training on a number of occasions, quite controversially it has to be said.
That’s going to dominate the final month of the transfer window, but Tottenham, who have also signed Bryan Gil, have also added some quality to the squad and based on Gollini’s debut, this is a big plus.
