A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club confirmed on their official website that Glenn Loovens has become the Black Cats’ latest summer signing.

Following their back to back relegations under previous managers, Jack Ross has wasted little time making big changes at the Stadium of Light with seven new signings coming through the door and several of last season’s squad offloaded or linked with exits this summer.

The seventh arrival of the window is Loovens, who has joined on a two-year deal after leaving Sheffield Wednesday at the end of his contract at the start of the summer.

Loovens enjoyed plenty of success with the Owls, most notably, guiding the side to the play-off final in 2016. He left Hillsborough having made 150 appearances for Wednesday in all competitions, captaining the side for much of his spell.

His leadership appears to be one of the main reasons why the fans are delighted with the news that he has arrived and become Ross’ latest signing.

Sunderland’s defenders have looked disorganised and incredibly vulnerable over the last couple of years, but Loovens’ attributes suggest that he could be the ideal acquisition to make the side much more difficult to break down.
