Well, it’s safe to say Caoimhin Kelleher has the Ipswich Town fanbase’s seal of approval.

In fact, that’s probably an understatement on a par with saying; “Huh, Paul Lambert wasn’t very popular at Portman Road, was he?”

And there’s a reason why reports linking Kelleher with a move to one of England’s great underachievers has elicited such excitement down in Suffolk.

The floppy-haired shot-stopper has impressed whenever he has been thrown in at the deep end by Jurgen Klopp.

Kelleher shone in a crunch Champions League clash with Ajax in late 2020 while replacing the vastly experienced Adrian as the Reds’ second-choice shot-stopper.

According to TWTD, however, Liverpool believe Kelleher would benefit more from a loan spell away from Anfield rather than spending another season watching on from the bench.

They feel waiting for the odd cup cameo or an injury to undisputed number one Alisson Becker could damage his development.

Ipswich, unsurprisingly, are reported to be interested. And while a toxic Portman Road atmosphere would make the surface of Venus look hospitable by comparison, Kelleher could learn a lot from a spell on loan at a club with a vociferous fanbase and lofty expectations.

If Kelleher wants to be Liverpool’s go-to glovesman one day, enrolling in Paul Cook’s school of hard knocks may be the making of one of the most talented young goalkeepers in Britain.

Here’s what some Ipswich fans on Twitter had to say about the situation:
