Some St Mirren fans turn on Jack Ross after Sunderland boss returns for Craig Samson

St Mirren fans are reacting on Twitter to news their number one has retired to become Sunderland’s goalkeeper coach.

Sunderland confirmed Craig Samson’s arrival earlier on Tuesday, a move that reunites the 34-year-old with his former St Mirren manager Jack Ross.

Ross signed Samson at the start of last season, and the latter was a key member of the side that won the Scottish Championship that year.

He also started every single one of St Mirren’s Premiership matches this campaign, ensuring his departure was something of a shock to those of a Buddies persuasion.

Samson replaces Jimmy Walker at Sunderland, after the 45-year-old quit last week just months after he joined Ross’s coaching team.

Like Samson, Walker did so to reunite with one of his old bosses, the new Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert.
