Tottenham Hotspur once had very high hopes for Alex Pritchard – and so did Spurs fans.

Pritchard joined Spurs at the age of just 16, having previously been on the books with London rivals West Ham United.

A creative midfield player with an eye for goal, Pritchard began to shine on loan at Swindon Town and Brentford, leading to real excitement.

Harry Redknapp shared his appreciation of Pritchard, and Mauricio Pochettino sounded excited to get him on board for Tottenham’s squad in 2015.

Injuries began to stall Pritchard’s development, as did a disappointing loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.

It became clear that Pritchard’s future was away from Tottenham. Fans begged him to stay, and then shared their frustration at Spurs selling him to Norwich City for £8million.

Some thought that Spurs would live to regret that decision, believing that Pritchard had real potential that just wasn’t being tapped into.

It’s hard to feel that it was a mistake now though, as Huddersfield Town have just made Pritchard a free agent, confirming they’re releasing him this summer.

Huddersfield signed Pritchard from Norwich in 2018, where he managed eight goals and 12 assists in 43 games – not a bad return, all things considered.

At Huddersfield though, Pritchard has been something of a flop. In 83 outings for the Terriers, he has only managed three goals and three assists.

That’s a remarkably poor record for a player of Pritchard’s technical ability, and Spurs fans really won’t have seen this drop coming.

The 28-year-old is without a club, and whilst he will likely attract Championship interest again, he hasn’t been able to prove Tottenham wrong for letting him go.
