It was a pretty decent transfer window in the end for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lilywhites kept hold of Harry Kane and signed Pierluigi Gollini, Cristian Romero, Bryan Gil and Emerson Royal, while Pape Matar Sarr also joined from Metz but was loaned back to the Ligue 1 side immediately.

Keeping hold of Kane was the big one when you consider how at one point it looked certain he’d be joining Manchester City.

Because of Kane staying, Tottenham called off their pursuit of a striker – and that means a move for Inter Milan hitman Lautaro Martinez was shelved.

On August 8, The Times reported that Spurs had agreed a £60 million fee for the Argentina international, who wound up staying in Italy.

Even though Kane remained in North London, failing to sign Martinez will have disappointed quite a lot of the club’s fans due to how good he is.

And the sight of Giovani Lo Celso assisting his opener in a World Cup qualifying win this morning will have done nothing for that heartache.

Here’s how some Lilywhites fans reacted to the footage on Twitter:

Spurs fans will forget about the Argentine very quickly if and when Kane finds his feet again.

The 28-year-old undeniably harmed his perception among Tottenham supporters for wanting to join Pep Guardiola’s side but, as soon as he starts finding the net again, all will be forgiven and Martinez will be but a distant memory.
