Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are calling on Elliot Thorpe to stay in North London, amid speculation about him leaving the club.

The Telegraph reported this week that Hoffenheim are keen on signing the 20-year-old Spurs midfielder this summer.

Thorpe hasn’t progressed into Tottenham’s senior set-up as of yet but two goals in 18 Premier League 2 outings indicate that the central midfield has a bit to offer.

According to Thorpe himself, it has been a season with ‘many ups and downs’ but the player also teased that something may be in the pipeline, after using that emoji.

Thorpe is well thought-of among some fans of the North London club.

And quite a few of them on social media have implored him to stick around. Here’s how they responded to his tweet:

Leaving might be the best option for his career.

Thorpe is the same age as Oliver Skipp and more worryingly, plays in a similar position.

Skipp has just played virtually every game in helping Norwich to Premier League promotion during a season-long loan in the Championship.

And yet there remains some doubt over whether or not he’ll be staying with Spurs’ senior squad next term.

But if he does then it makes little sense for Thorpe to hang around, even if Skipp isn’t retained by Jose Mourinho’s successor, it would demonstrate the level needed to play regularly for the first team and that wouldn’t bode well for Thorpe right now.
