Southampton have reportedly received a bid from Watford for midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports emerging from The Sun this week which have suggested that Watford have made a £10 million bid for James Ward-Prowse.
The Sun reports that the Hornets have decided to test the Saints’ resolve to keep the 23-year-old, who has spent his entire career with the south coast side after joining at the age of eight.
It is not clear whether Mark Hughes and Les Reed will have any interest in selling Ward-Prowse, but it would certainly be a huge surprise if they were willing to sanction his exit off the back of the £10 million bid.
Ward-Prowse has perhaps not quite managed to establish himself in one role in the side to the level that he becomes one of the first names on the teamsheet, but he is still learning his game and his versatility makes him a hugely important member of Hughes’ squad.
It is also well known that the midfielder is one of the better set-piece takers in the Premier League, regularly asking questions of opposition defenders with his free-kicks and corners.
Perhaps unsurprisingly therefore, it appears that the large majority of Southampton fans are urging the club to reject Watford’s offer for him this summer.
There are some who appear to be unconvinced that he will realise his full potential and would like to see a sale considered, but even those fans do not seem to believe that £10 million is enough.
It would be a major surprise if Watford’s initial bid was accepted, and it appears that the club would have to brace themselves for a significant backlash if they did consider letting him leave for that price.
