Southampton have continued their extremely productive summer with an eight-figure deal to sign Angus Gunn from Manchester City.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was confirmed that the Saints have continued their extremely productive summer by signing Angus Gunn from Manchester City.

According to BBC Sport, the Saints have spent £13.5 million on signing Gunn from the Premier League champions, and the 22-year-old will now be hoping to win the battle for the number one spot at St Mary’s.

Alex McCarthy was superb last season and earned himself a long-term contract after his performances played a key part in keeping Mark Hughes’ men in the top flight. The deal for Gunn surely throws serious doubt over the future of Fraser Forster, whose form last season was nothing like what it was during the early stages of his spell on the south coast.

It is another fantastic statement from Southampton to get Gunn through the door. The Saints needed a busy summer after such a disappointing season last time out – despite being incredibly unlikely, they went into the final day of the campaign still in a position that could have led to them being relegated – and the club have undoubtedly made waves in the market.

Mark Hughes, manager of Southampton is seen on the touchline during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Southampton at Emirates Stadium on April 8, 2018 in London, England.

Stuart Armstrong has arrived from Celtic and Mohamed Elyounoussi has joined from Basel, but Gunn’s arrival is undoubtedly a major deal for the club with the stopper boasting an enormous amount of potential.

And it is fair to say that the fans are extremely excited about the stopper’s move, with making taking to social media to laud the club for getting the deal done.
