Southampton are closing in on signing Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn, BBC Sport report.

Gunn is tipped as a future England international and will compete with Alex McCarthy for the number one spot, who signed a new contract just last month.

The odd man out appears to be Fraser Forster, who began last season as Southampton’s number one.

The 30-year-old had an error prone season and looked like he had lost a step.

He then struggled in pre-season against Schalke in a friendly match last week.

Gunn’s arrival should nudge Forster out the door, either permanently or on loan, and provide the ex-England international with a chance to resurrect his career.
