Some Sheffield Wednesday fans have made up their minds on Newcastle’s Achraf Lazaar

The Newcastle United defender returned to action for Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.

Achraf Lazaar was only on the pitch for three minutes against Nottingham Forest (plus five added on) but it was enough for some Sheffield Wednesday fans to make up their mind on the on-loan Newcastle United left-back.

Lazaar has missed around six weeks of his Hillsborough spell with a hamstring injury.

But he returned as a substitute in the Owls’ 3-0 win against their top-half rivals on Tuesday, replacing Marco Matias on the wing.

Lazaar – who joined his Newcastle teammate, Rolando Aarons at Sheffield Wednesday on deadline day – took 11 touches during his Forest cameo and completed just 50 per cent (two) of his attempted passes (according to WhoScored.com).

But also made two tackles and a block in that time and this lot are keen to see him back in Owls colours next season…

Both Lazaar and Aarons have two years left on their Newcastle contracts, although their futures at the club remain very much uncertain.

The Sheffield Wednesday manager, Steve Bruce, has vowed to cull the squad he inherited from Jos Luhukay in January.

But the Owls’ precarious financial situation could affect their chances of bringing Lazaar, Aarons and others back to Hillsborough next season.
