Several Sheffield Wednesday fans are laying into George Hirst after another young Owls striker signed up at Hillsborough.

18-year-old Preslav Borukov landed his first professional contract on Monday – three days after Hirst’s departure for Oud-Heverlee Leuven was announced by the Belgian club.

The 19-year-old’s transfer brings to an end an 18-month dispute between player and club – much of which Hirst spent banished from Wednesday’s plans at every level.

And many Owls followers had already taken the club’s side long before the England youth international chose to go abroad – a decision which has ended his former employers’ hopes of landing a substantial compensation windfall.

His exit should however provide Borukov with further opportunities to impress, after the Bulgarian stepped into Hirst’s shoes admirably at under-23 level last season.

This is what those of a Sheffield Wednesday persuasion are saying on Twitter.

Can Borukov make an impact in Sheffield Wednesday’s first team this coming campaign?
