Rotherham United fans are reacting after Steve Bruce suggested that Sheffield Wednesday’s upcoming trip to the New York Stadium is like a ‘cup final’ for the Millers.
Wednesday are, historically, South Yorkshire’s most successful club, but make the seven-mile trip to Rotherham’s New York Stadium just six places better off than their 22nd-placed local rivals.
Speaking to the Star ahead of his first ‘derby’ as Sheffield Wednesday manager, Bruce said: “The Championship is in my experience never an easy one.
“Rotherham, it’s probably their cup final, they’re probably sold out for the first time maybe the second one. “It’s never an easy place to play, they will ask you a question, they will throw it in your box.
“He’s done a top, top job [the Rotherham boss, Paul] Warne and we’re expecting a tough game.
“We’ve got a really wonderful travelling support and I believe we could have sold five times over if we had the opportunity. It’s a derby match – it’s not the big derby for us but it’s a challenge.”
But despite Bruce acknowledging the threat posed by Rotherham on Saturday, many of Millers persuasion have not reacted well to the 58-year-old’s comments.

Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in three games under Bruce’s leadership, and have yet to concede a goal.
They have, however, scored just once in that time.
Wednesday could have their captain, Tom Lees, back to face Rotherham, although Bruce could have a dilemma on his hands with Jordan Thorniley performing well in his teammate’s absence.
After the Millers, the Owls face Swansea City and Brentford at home before the visit of their biggest rivals, Sheffield United.
