The Rangers defender failed to make an appearance at Ibrox on Saturday.

Rangers fans look on during the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on September 1, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Some Rangers fans have called on Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard to give more opportunities to defender Borna Barisic in upcoming matches.

The Croatian international has spent more time on the bench this season than on the pitch.

Competing with Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan, Barisic has failed to convince his manager that he is worthy of more regular action, despite being fit for plenty of matches.

Barisic played 180 minutes for Croatia during the international break and that could have been a factor in his lack of selection this weekend.

However, there’s a clear pattern and Gerrard can’t quite seem to find his preferred option in the position.

The 26-year-old has the best long-term potential out of the three options Gerrard turns to.

That’s not to say the defender has been in blistering form. He’s often failed to take chances that comes his way.

However, there’s an argument to say that the Ibrox boss should commit to the player and have him play a run of matches to build his confidence.

Rangers won’t be recruiting at left-back until January at least, so Gerrard needs to find a reliable solution.

With big matches on the horizon, including against Feyenoord on Thursday, it’ll be telling which player is selected going forward.

Some fans certainly want to see Barisic given more opportunities, with this lot taking to Twitter over the weekend to share their thoughts on it all…
