The Rangers manager Steven Gerrard had previously suggested that Rudden would be third-choice at Ibrox.

Some Rangers supporters think that a striker could be on his way to Ibrox before the close of the summer transfer window.

Earlier, Rangers allowed Zak Rudden to leave for Plymouth Argyle on a half-season loan deal.

And Rudden is now the fourth specialist centre forward to exit Ibrox since the end of last term, after Ryan Hardie, Andrew Dallas and Kyle Lafferty – each of whom have made permanent moves.

That leaves just Jermain Defoe, Alfredo Morelos and the forgotten man Joe Dodoo left as Steven Gerrard’s senior options.

And after the Rangers boss Gerrard previously suggested that Rudden would be his number three this campaign, the following Gers fans are predicting a new arrival.

The Plymouth manager Ryan Lowe is a close friend of Gerrard, having played with the 39-year-old in Liverpool’s youth teams.

Rudden scored a hat-trick for Rangers against Lowe’s Bury side – who later took Jamie Barjonas and Jordan Rossiter on loan from the Gers – last pre-season.
