Rangers continued their pre-season preparations on Sunday afternoon as they hammered Championship side Wigan Athletic 3-0 at Ibrox.

The Gers beat Osijek 1-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night as Alfredo Morelos scored the only goal with a superb header – and he was at it again on Sunday.

After a tepid first half showing, Rangers took the lead in the second half, with Daniel Candeias whipping in a superb cross, and Morelos headed home the opener.

One quickly became two as Glenn Middleton’s deep corner was headed into the net by defender Nikola Katic, and Alex Bruce headed into his own net to make it 3-0.

Three goals in ten minutes handed Rangers the win, and the game also saw Steven Gerrard hand a Gers debut to new signing Umar Sadiq, as he came on for Morelos after 55 minutes.

The Nigerian forward has arrived from Roma on a season-long loan deal, and after a little wait for his debut, he produced a strong showing in his 35 minutes on the pitch.

Rangers fans were left hugely impressed with Sadiq’s desire and speed, whilst he also pressured Bruce into scoring the own goal to make it 3-0.

Fans took to Twitter to hail Sadiq, calling him the ‘real deal’ and predicting big things for him this season, suggesting that he is far more encouraging than Eduardo Herrera, and will cause problems for defenders this season.
