Fabio Cardoso has endured a nightmare spell at Rangers.

Rangers have confirmed that they have reached a mutual decision with Fabio Cardoso to terminate the centre-back’s contract this summer – and some fans have instantly reacted on Twitter.

The Gers confirmed on their official website that Cardoso, 24, had agreed to cancel his three-year deal with the Gers a year after Pedro Caixinha had lured him to Ibrox from Vitoria Setubal.

Now, it is believed the Portugal youth international is set to join newly-promoted Portuguese top-tier outfit Santa Clara, with newspaper A Bola claiming that a deal could be concluded this week.

Cardoso only managed 18 appearances for Rangers during the 2017-18 season, ultimately becoming just one example of another of flop signings made by Caixinha during his spell in charge.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is seen during the Pre-Season Friendly match between Rangers and Wigan Athletic at Ibrox Stadium on July 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

He joins the likes of Eduardo Herrera, Carlos Pena and Bruno Alves in leaving the club this summer after failing to show just what they are capable of at Ibrox.

Some Rangers fans believe Cardoso was not given enough chances to show his true worth at Rangers, while others were not so sympathetic, and claim he simply was not good enough for the Light Blues.
