The Rangers midfielder will be treated for an injury by Ibrox staff.

Rangers have taken the decision to recall Ibrox midfielder Ryan Jack from international duty with Scotland after an apparent knee problem, The Scottish Sun report.

Swelling to the knee of the 27-year-old forced him to the bench against Russia on Friday night, with the problem subsequently worsening over the weekend.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke told the paper: “Ryan has gone back to Rangers.

“He had a little bit of swelling on his knee on Friday and was prepared to sit on the bench.

“But on Saturday there was more swelling and Rangers decided to go safety first.”

Clearly it’s a potential blow to Steven Gerrard’s squad, but the hope will be from Rangers’ perspective that the preventative measure will ensure he’s fully fit for difficult challenges ahead.

The Gers are entering a tricky period of fixtures at home and abroad as Gerrard’s team look to bounce back from a damaging derby defeat to Celtic last week.

Jack has emerged as one of the team’s prominent performers over the last year and is regularly selected by the Rangers boss.

The former Aberdeen man will be disappointed with how his international break turned out, having had to wait a year since his last call up to the Scotland team.

Some Rangers fans though are pretty pleased to hear the player is heading home early, feeling he is best served not heading off and testing himself with his country when he could be rested for club action.
