Rangers announced on Thursday that defender Nikola Katic has signed a new contract with the club.

Signing for the Gers during last summer’s transfer window, the Croatian has emerged as a regular pick in Steven Gerrard’s side.

He’s now extended his stay at the club, signing up until the summer of 2023, a year beyond his previous deal.

As quoted by Rangers.co.uk, the defender said of the deal: “I feel it is really good for me and four more years here and I think that will help me to become a better player, a better person and to help the club achieve something special.

“I think it is a really good club for a young player, with this manager, a lot of fans and a lot of good players with experience from the Premier League and other leagues in the world that will definitely help me to grow every day and become a better person and a better player.”

The 23-year-old has made 41 appearances for the club in total and will now be looking to push on and solidify his position in Gerrard’s defensive line.

With strong competition from Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and George Edmundson, he’ll need to maintain a high standard in order to do that.

This new contract could be a real confidence boost for the player over the coming weeks and months as the Gers’ schedule gets even tougher.
