Rangers ace Borna Barisic scored for Croatia on Thursday night.
Croatia avoided a major upset on Thursday night, as they came from behind to beat Azerbaijan at home in their first Euro 2020 qualifier.
Zlatko Dalic’s side reached the World Cup final last year, so many will have expected them to start their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign with an easy home win.
However, they were left stunned when Ramil Sheydayev struck Azerbaijan in front inside 20 minutes, leaving Croatia to try and pick themselves back up again.
Fortunately, they got themselves level before half time as Rangers defender Borna Barisic equalised, and after a frustrating second half, Andrej Kramaric bagged a winner on 79 minutes to seal a late win.
Croatia will have been relieved to have avoided a major upset, and the impact of left back Barisic was key, ensuring Dalic’s side went into half time all square.
The Rangers ace hasn’t impressed of late, turning in some underwhelming performances for Steven Gerrard’s side whilst receiving criticism from fans, even losing his spot to Andy Halliday on occasion.
Some Rangers fans subsequently took to Twitter on Thursday night to share their shock at Barisic scoring for Croatia, asking with complete bewilderment just where these kind of displays are for Rangers.
Others think that Barisic will gain confidence from that goal, and predict that he will be a much better player either after the international break or next season, once he has adapted fully to Scottish football.
